REPOWER REGIONS — Heating and Cooling in Buildings

Decarbonised Heating and Cooling in Practice: VET Programme

Free training materials for colleges, training centres and employers delivering heating and cooling skills at EQF Level 4.

Heating and cooling account for around half of Europe's energy demand. The people who will deliver the transition are already working in HVAC, building services and construction — and they need practical skills, not just awareness.

This programme gives you everything needed to teach them: seven ready-to-use modules, a set of open resources for hands-on learning, and a guide for trainers. All of it is free to use, adapt and translate. What this includes...

A complete programme covering the transition, energy efficiency, heat pumps, district and renewable heat, smart controls, compliance and safety, and project delivery. Around 16–22 hours of taught content, supplied as editable files you can adapt to your own context.
Video tutorials, free planning tools, real project case studies and workplace projects your learners complete on a real site.
Delivery models, module-by-module teaching notes, what learners typically get wrong, assessment guidance and advice on adapting the programme to your national context.

About the modules

Who's it for?

Installers, technicians, service engineers, site supervisors and anyone working in or moving into heating, cooling and building services. It's equally useful if you teach these subjects and are updating your own course material.

What you'll be able to do

By the end you'll be able to explain the drivers behind decarbonised heating and cooling, recognise the main technical pathways and where each one fits, identify what you need to know before recommending an approach, and apply all of it to realistic situations on site.

What to expect?

Seven short modules built around practical application — real-world examples, scenarios, applied tasks and a knowledge check at the end of each one. Work at your own pace.

There are an additional 15 Open Educational Resources to coincide with the Training Modules below.

Decarbonised Heating & Cooling — what the transition means and why it matters

Energy Efficiency & Retrofit Practices — spotting energy-saving opportunities and the measures that deliver them

Heat Pumps & Hybrid Systems in Practice — how they work and where they fit

Integrating with District & Renewable Heat — connecting buildings to shared and renewable heat sources

Smart Controls & Digital Operation — how sensors and controls keep a building running efficiently

Smart Controls & Digital Operation — how sensors and controls keep a building running efficiently

Project Awareness & Task Coordination — your role on site and working well with others
